Terrible Twos

I know we are crazy- we actually know when our dogs' birthday is! And yes- I'm posting about it-ha ha! You know us and are dogs- they are the children of the house for the time being :)

"The boys" turned 2 on February 22 and they are officially in their terrible two stage- though I swear that started a long time ago!! Russell and I can't believe it has been 2 years since we brought home Gauge and Tar- they were so dang cute!

Now maybe you can see why we couldn't decide on just one! They were so adorable and we decided that two would be better than one- so they wouldn't get lonely. We have learned that having two has its advantages but it also has disadvantages. We got the boys from a couple in Hyde Park and drove up their one Sunday to pick out just one- but like I said- we couldn't decide on just one and so we got two! We went back at the first of April to pick them up when they were old enough to leave their Mama and have enjoyed (most the time) having them as part of our family.

Both Russell and I had somewhat of a shock when we realized what went in to raising two puppies. We both had dogs growing up but both of them were a couple years when we had gotten them so we had no idea what to expect. I have decided that they are so cute as puppies because it keeps you from killing them :) Here are some highlights from the past two years:

*Repairing holes in the wall where the sheetrock and insulation had been scratched/chewed out
*Cleaning up torn up newspaper and puppy pads (can you say - disgusting?)

*I used to be afraid at what I would come home too- now you see why! Good thing we got a new floor after these messes! *

*Learning that they both loved the taste of Bitter Apple- so no luck in getting them to stop chewing things up

*Vet and food bills times two (who knew they could cost so much?)

*A disastrous time at Pet Smart's puppy training class. We almost got kicked out- no joke. Not to mention that Russell and I got a workout during the longest hour of our lives- one day a week for six LONG weeks (they did graduate but I think it's cuz they wanted us out of there!)

*Hundreds of dollars spent on toys that were a flop and more tennis balls than you would ever imagine

*A back yard that will just NEVER look nice (yes, they eat trees, bushes, flowers etc. )

*We sectioned off this grass so it could grow & it looked so good for awhile!*

*This is after the boys were allowed back on it- they are good at finding things to chew and destroy*

Many wonder why we still have them after all this fun, but besides the "fun" things, they have been so great! I enjoy having them around when Russell is at work and I feel safer at nights with them there. They know when your sick and want to cuddle- it's so dang cute! (too bad it's not as cute when they now weigh 80 lbs) So Happy Birthday boys- we love you! (most the time- ha ha)

Valentines Day

It was nice that Valentine's Day this year landed on a Saturday and that Russell and I got to spend the day together. We decided that instead of going out with the rest of the world, we would stay in and cook us a yummy dinner and just spend time together. We went to the grocery store and each picked out a steak and got us some shrimp as an appetizer. Russell has no problems using the grill- even in the dead of winter- so he set out to grill the steaks while I got the other stuff ready.

*Doesn't he look HOT? :)*

The dinner was great- the steaks were complimented by none other than Mac and Cheese (Russell's request) and some corn. It was an unusual mix- but a very good dinner!

After dinner we exchanged gifts- Russell is so sweet to me and does such a good job picking me stuff out. Here is what he got me:

He knows that I'm obsessed with jewelry and a girl can never have too much! Here is a close up of the beautiful ring he got me.

I gave Russell a golf discount book that he can use this summer when he goes golfing.
I miss the days of filling out cheesy Valentine cards, making Valentine mailboxes and hurrying to see what the candy heart says that the cute boy in the class gave you :) Even without these things- we still had a great day and I loved being able to spend time with my sweetheart!
